19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult season, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

His defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued four early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
